Player character options
Player characters are exactly as they sound: characters selected and controlled by the player. They have a name, a description, a list of skills, and an optional image. Unless otherwise specified, around 3 to 4 player characters will be generated by the World Generator AI. At least one player character is required to play a game.
Skills[edit]
Skills are numerically tracked capabilities, rated on a scale from 0 to 5. The World Generator will usually create 3 to 5 skills based on the original world prompt. There is no way to describe skills beyond their name in the Player character options section. This is usually enough: the storyteller is typically capable of figuring out what the skill is intended to be. However, an author may wish to describe the use and description of each skill to the AI in Main instructions.
At least 1 skill is required to run a World.
Customization Settings[edit]
Customization settings are the permissions a world author can give to players for modifying characters before game start, using the Customize Character button next to the character in the Character Select screen. These options are:
- Change character name
- Allows players to modify the name of the character. On by default.
- Change character description
- Allows players to modify the description of the character. On by default.
- Change character skills
- Allows players to redistribute the skill levels of the character. Critically, it is impossible for a player to distribute more than the original total value of the character's skill levels. On by default.
- Select other portraits from the portrait gallery for that character
- Allows players to cycle between existing portraits that have already been generated. Off by default.
- Create a new portrait
- Allows players to generate a new portrait. On by default.
- Change starting values of Tracked Items (if applicable)
- Allows players to modify the contents of character-associated Tracked Items with a specified initial value. Off by default.
Characters[edit]
This is the real meat of the Player Character section, where each player character is defined. Note that because only the selected character will have their information passed to the AI, unselected characters defined here will not appear in the game as non-player characters (NPCs) unless they have an entry in Other Characters. The storyteller AI will safely combine duplicate entries between Other Characters and the player character. Both the Name and Description fields can take advantage of variable call syntax.
At least 1 Character is required to run a world.
Name[edit]
This is the name of the player character, and will be provided to the storyteller AI. The AI will avoid giving other characters the same name, and will know who the player character is by this name, using it for defining the subject of illustrations. This can be modified using a trigger.
Description[edit]
This is a description of the player character. It can include everything from physical to personality description, potential plot hooks, and anything else an author might think to include. This information is passed to the AI every turn, so it always influences the AI's decisions and processing. This can be modified using a trigger.
Portrait[edit]
Portrait is an optional field containing an image presented to the player at character selection. While this can be generated using Infinite Worlds' built-in image generator, the prompt used to do so will not be saved and will not affect images of the player character that are generated during gameplay. If an author wants to ensure that a particular description is adhered to, they should either describe the appearance of the character in their Description, or use an entry in Other Characters to communicate this information to the image AI.
Skills[edit]
This is the list of skills and their levels for the specific character. The storyteller AI will pick one or more of these skills and use them as part of how it evaluates the player's action to help it to determine whether or not the player succeeds or fails to carry out the submitted action.
Skill levels range from 0 to 5, and have an associated term that the AI receives alongside the numeric value.
0 = Incapable 1 = Incompetent 2 = Unskilled 3 = Competent 4 = Highly Skilled 5 = Exceptional
These values and their associated terms have a direct effect on the way the storyteller will resolve these decisions.
