AI models
There are several models involved behind the scenes in running Infinite Worlds.
Storyteller AI[edit]
The Storyteller AI is the main AI which generates the story (plus the instructions for the illustrations) in Infinite Worlds. It's the AI you are selecting when you click "AI model" in the main menu.
Cost per Turn[edit]
Different models have different costs depending on provider rates for input and output tokens, meaning that costs presented in the model-selection menu are only estimates. Due to the fluctuating nature of input and output length, it is impossible to predict exact costs ahead of time.
For world authors, best practice is to play about 10-20 turns, noting the difference in credit balance for each turn, then averaging the total difference across the total turns. For decent accuracy, do this at least three times. Then note the average cost per turn in the description of the world, so players will be able to see an expected cost per turn.
Summary AI[edit]
Summary AI handles writing summaries of past turns and updating an ongoing world's internal character notes. This includes summarizing the most recent turns, updating the summary with new information and condensing its contents, and updating other character's story and image information. A worlds's summary instructions influence how the summary behaves. The model responsible for this is currently Lion.
Image AI[edit]
The image AI actually generates the illustrations, based on instructions created by the storytelling AI. It's the AI you are selecting when you click "Image model" in the main menu.
Images have a small cost associated with them, typically 3-5 credits.
World Generator AI[edit]
The World Generator AI is responsible for taking an initial prompt and generating all the necessary elements to play a world. Unless otherwise stated in the prompt, they will always generate:
- Title
- Description
- Cover Image
- Background
- First Action
- Objective
- Main Instructions
- Player Characters
- Victory
- Defeat
There are currently three models available for this purpose:
- Wildcat
- Lion
- Lion-thinking
Auxiliary AIs[edit]
Small AI models are used for various tasks, for example updating a character's appearance when the storytelling AI has indicated that it should be changed.
Moderation AIs[edit]
A moderation endpoint is used to flag turns as potentially needing moderation. If it flags turns, an auxiliary AI is used to evaluate specific categories of risk, with the result being shown to the player. Note that at the time of writing these AIs are not terribly smart, so they are prone to making some rather silly mistakes.
