Victory and defeat
Victory and Defeat are special situation triggers that will end the game. Victory allows a player to continue playing, but Defeat will conclude the game. Victory and Defeat are listed under the Optional Features checkbox, but the World Generator AI will always fill them in. The generated Victory condition will usually be related to the original prompt given, or else "The player character has succeeded in their initial goals". The generated Defeat condition will usually be "The player character has died".
The storyteller AI does not receive these triggers with any special context, and therefore is not influenced by their contents in any way while writing outputs.
Victory[edit]
Victory will end the game, but allows the player to continue playing if they so choose. Players can also choose to restart their game when Victory is triggered. The generated Victory condition will usually be related to the original prompt given, but may default to "The player character has succeeded in their initial goals". The text displayed to the player at the end of the output will also usually be related to the original prompt given, based on the generated story/concepts found in Main instructions, but may default to "Congratulations! You have been successful in your adventure."
Victory can be disabled by unticking the relevant checkbox.
Defeat[edit]
Defeat will end the game with no option to continue. Players can choose to restart their game when Defeat is triggered. The generated Defeat condition may be related to the original prompt given, but often defaults to "The player character has died". Similarly, the text displayed at the end of the output may be related to the original prompt, but usually defaults to "Your adventure ends here. Game over."
Defeat can be disabled by unticking the relevant checkbox.
Other End Conditions[edit]
Additional game end conditions can be implemented using triggers. These can be either victory or defeat conditions, and otherwise behave similarly to the main Victory and Defeat fields.
Notes[edit]
Many users find the default Victory and Defeat systems limiting or overeager. As a result, many often disable them entirely. Some users write the trigger instructions in very explicit terms, with emphasis using full-word capitalization (e.g. "ACTUALLY"), or with multiple, slightly reworded statements of the same idea.
